1. Name of the programme of activity: Grant/Subsidy to maintain its infrastructure for MSP operation in Raw Jute.
2. Objective of the Programme: To maintain an effective infrastructure for MSP operations for raw jute in the form of a network of purchase centres and go-downs with adequate manpower in the jute growing districts of the country, by the Jute Corporation of India Limited to achieve the following:-
This network of purchase centres and godowns shall be ever ready to intervene into the jute market and buy raw jute from the farmers at MSP rates as and when the prices of jute fall below MSP level.
This MSP administering infrastructure will enhance the confidence of jute farming community and afford them holding power when there is downward pressure on market prices.
The MSP infrastructure in the form of Departmental Purchase Centres (DPCs) of JCI would also be utilized as centres for propagating other schemes related to jute farming such as jute ICARE.
At other times (non- MSP situation), the corporation may utilize the network of DPCs and go-downs for other commercial activities.
3. Procedure to avail benefits: In order to meet its objective, JCI has to maintain 141 Departmental Purchase Centres, 14 Regional Offices and necessary sizeable infrastructure in the 6 (six) jute growing States for MSP preparedness.
4. Duration of the programme/ scheme: Continuous Scheme.
